CBSE Board Exams 2026: Evaluation System Explained, Digital Marking to Play Key Role
The (CBSE) has shared important details about how answer sheets for the 2026 board examinations will be checked. During an interactive session with school representatives, the board’s examination department clarified major updates in the assessment process for both Class 10 and Class 12 students.
Exams To Begin From February 17
CBSE has confirmed that the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations will commence on February 17, 2026. With lakhs of students expected to appear, the board is focusing on making the evaluation process faster, more reliable, and error-free.
On-Screen Marking for Class 12
One of the biggest changes this year is the introduction of On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer sheets. Instead of physically checking copies at evaluation centres, scanned answer scripts will be assessed digitally.
This system is expected to:
- Minimise calculation and totalling mistakes
- Improve transparency in marking
- Reduce paperwork and logistical challenges
- Allow examiners to evaluate from designated digital centres
With automated checks in place, the chances of manual errors are significantly reduced.
No Post-Result Verification for Class 12
Due to the digital evaluation system, CBSE has indicated that post-result verification of marks will not be available for Class 12 students. Since the marking and totalling will be done through a controlled digital platform, discrepancies are expected to be minimal.
Clear Instructions for Exam Centres
The board has also reminded schools about proper conduct during examinations. Strict guidelines have been issued regarding:
- Safe handling and distribution of question papers
- Maintaining correct subject allocation
- Ensuring students write answers within the prescribed space
CBSE emphasised that subject changes after question paper distribution will not be permitted under any circumstances.
Structured Question Papers for Better Evaluation
For certain subjects like Science and Social Science in Class 10, answer booklets will follow clearly defined sections. Students are advised to respond strictly within the allotted space to ensure their answers are evaluated properly.
Maping of marking scheme

These updates reflect CBSE’s effort to modernise the examination system while ensuring fairness and accuracy in result preparation.
