Government Transfers Chief Education Officers in J&K; New Postings Announced

Jammu & Kashmir, January 15, 2026:
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, through the School Education Department, has issued an official order regarding the transfer and posting of Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and equivalent officers in the interest of administration. The order has been issued under Government Order No. 24-JK (Edu) of 2026, dated 15 January 2026, and comes into effect immediately.

As per the government notification, several senior officers have been reassigned to new districts and institutions to strengthen academic administration and improve the functioning of the School Education Department across Jammu and Kashmir.

Details of Transfers and New Postings

  • Ab. Gani Bhat, presently posted at DIET Kupwara, has been transferred and posted as Chief Education Officer, Kulgam.
  • Mohd. Shabir, who was serving as Chief Education Officer, Kulgam, has been posted as Associate Professor at SCERT, Jammu.
  • Kewal Krishan, formerly Chief Education Officer, Samba, has been transferred and posted as Chief Education Officer, Kathua.
  • Yash Paul Sharma, earlier posted at DIET Poonch, has been appointed as Chief Education Officer, Samba.
  • Balbir Kumar, who was serving at DIET Shopian, has been transferred and posted as Chief Education Officer, Bandipora.

Additional Charge of DIETs

The government order further clarifies that the Chief Education Officers of Kupwara, Shopian, and Poonch shall also hold the additional charge of their respective District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), alongside their regular duties, until further orders.

Issued by Competent Authority

The order has been issued by the order of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and is signed by R. N. Sharma, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, School Education Department. The notification has also been endorsed by Sheetal Pandita, JKAS, Deputy Secretary to the Government.

This administrative reshuffle reflects the government’s continued efforts to ensure efficient governance, strengthened leadership, and improved educational outcomes across the Union Territory.
