Kashmir School Summer Vacation 2026: No Decision Yet, Education Minister Clarifies
Srinagar, June 3: Amid growing speculation among students and parents regarding summer vacations in Kashmir schools, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo has clarified that no decision has been taken so far on declaring summer holidays in schools across the Kashmir Valley.
The minister stated that weather conditions in most parts of Kashmir remain relatively pleasant and do not currently warrant the closure of schools. She emphasized that the Education Department is focused on ensuring the smooth conduct of classes and timely completion of the academic syllabus.
Why Are Students Expecting Summer Vacations?
The demand for summer vacations has increased after the government announced holidays for schools and colleges in the Summer Zone of Jammu Division due to intense heatwave conditions. Several districts in Jammu have been experiencing exceptionally high temperatures, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures for students’ safety.

However, officials have noted that the weather situation in Kashmir is different from Jammu, and therefore the same vacation schedule cannot be applied automatically.
Government Monitoring Weather Conditions
According to the Education Minister, the government is continuously monitoring weather forecasts and temperature trends across the Valley. Any decision regarding summer vacations will depend on:
- Significant rise in temperatures
- Heatwave-like conditions
- Impact of weather on students and school functioning
- Recommendations from concerned departments
If weather conditions worsen in the coming days, the government may review the situation and take an appropriate decision.
No Official Order Issued Yet
Officials have confirmed that no fresh order regarding summer vacations has been issued for schools in Kashmir Division. The existing academic calendar remains in force, and all government as well as private schools are functioning normally.
What Students and Parents Should Know
- Schools in Kashmir remain open as of now.
- No summer vacation notification has been released.
- The Education Department is closely monitoring weather conditions.
- Any future decision will be officially communicated through government orders.
- Students are advised not to rely on social media rumours and wait for official announcements.
Latest Update
As of June 3, 2026, the Jammu and Kashmir government has not announced summer vacations for Kashmir schools. Education Minister Sakina Itoo has reiterated that the decision will be considered only if temperatures rise significantly or heatwave conditions develop in the Valley.
